My 10 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with mild scoliosis. Over the last year she occassionaly suffers severe back pain that sometimes completely imbilizes her for hours with muscle spasms. I find it difficult to believe that scoliosis can be the cause of such severe pain. Has anyone here experienced pain to this extreme caused by scoliosis? Please share your stories with me and thank you.

Hi Leanne,
My name is Jackie and I'm 21yrs old, I've known about my scoliosis since i was about 14, i had the full run of treatment from bracing to spinal fusion, and throughout the whole process i have suffered from pain, so just let your daughter know she's not alone and not crazy (many doctors have tried to tell me there is no pain with scoliosis, i think maybe they're forgetting thats my spine bending in unnatural positions), i've defintely had pain ranging from the annoying to the debilitating. the thing that helps me the most is to stretch, i'll sit with my knees on the floor and bending foward, try to reach my hands forward as far as i can, that or lying on my back on a flat firm surface also seems to help. i hope that hopes some!

thanks Jackie, my daughter just saw the specialist for the first time. he thinks her scoliosis is so minor that it wouldn't be the cause of her pain. probably it is from an injury that she keeps reinjuring. i appreciate your reply.
